Home and happy:

I arrived home last night from a great time in the North Pennines.

A time of renewed friendship, a warm bothy fire, the hills clad in snow and the walking was sublime.  The wild camping was a joy too.  More on this later in the week.

Looking forward to the read Martin. Like the pics. No1 reminded me of the territory of Custers Last Stand. How the mind works eh.

A cracking bothy night Martin, looks like Reuben is after something in the photo.  Your second night out looks like it may have been a little chilly?

Superb photos Martin, particularly the first. I look forward to the full report as it looks and sounds like a fantastic getaway! Also, the new wider blog layout is much, much better - it definitely does much better justice to your excellent photography.

Unlike Custer Alan, I did not finish bottom of my class nor did we divide our force in pursuit of our objective.  Indeed funny how the mind works.  It was a fine place not to make a last stand.

New camera gave me a lot of control and learning fast about using it Sandy.  Thanks.

Reuben is not silly.  Extra food is always good to  a dog.  It was great to meet again.  The wild camp was cold.  I was just warm.  Should have had warmer mat.  Keith was cold with a  good air pad to sleep on and an ME Lightline filled with 550g of down.  River started to freeze up.  One cold night.  Good fun still.

New wider blog is the way forward Nick.  Will update all posts and clean up the pages.  Glad you like the photos.  Have a lot of this trip.  Making a little video too.  Thanks and hope I don't disappoint.

Superb Philip and carried the load well.  Like that it keeps load close to my centre of gravity.  So far very pleased.  Long way to go with it before final thoughts.

It was and I will be cryptic and not saying where it is located.  Go find it and enjoy a warm fire with the wind roaring outside.  Bothy's are great at times.

It was very cold Sally.  Ridgeway is a walk I would like to do.  Enjoy it.  Hope the weather is kind.

Now that looks like a cracking couple of days!

They were Steve thanks.  Took a DSLR to get the photos.  Whole new world of recording what I saw.  Trip report coming.

Blooming lovely pics - tantalising!  Love the Pennine moors.  The Lakes were good at the weekend too Martin, a little wild was the weather though.

Martin Rye said...

I wanted a break from wild weather Carl and went to the Pennines.  Hope to be reading about your trip when I go through my Google Reader list.  Hope you had a good time.  Well done on the TGO BTW.

Have a read of Dave Woods post on our walk too - davewoodwalks.blogspot.com for another angle when you are done.  Cheers Martin.

You got on fine with the new camera mate? Different ball game aint it. Worth it though. You'll see the difference :)

Camera is superb.  James and me did night shots.  He needed 10 to 15 seconds to get a image.  I needed with my lens 1 second sometimes.  2 to 4 max.  Detail like the sunrise burning on the water stand out.  Made a video too.  Going to write post today and tweak it all for Friday hopefully Terry.   Much better camera to use than a NEX.

Nice walk, and cosy looking bothy.

Completely OFF Topic

Is there any way on Earth to get a response from Ron at MLD.
I ordered an Ultralight bivy well over a month ago.

I have sent him 3 emails just asking when it might be delivered so I can plan around it.
And also telling him dates of expected trips, (as was suggested in a blog response).

I know he is busy, but I have not even had the courtesy of a reply.
I realise his turn around time is generally 6 to 12 weeks,
but the Trailstar arrived in 5.

Is he normally this bad at replying?
The money has gone out, I checked on Paypal

Cheers

Maybe a Facebook MLD group.  I am sure he will respond.  MLD delivers superb service I find. Email one more time and don't panic.BTW I often have slept under the Trail Star without any bivy.   I also have a new ground sheet and hence a spare half size one I used in the Dales.  Take that and get out.  You wont take any harm in a warm sleeping bag.
